Summary — what you need to know
  • An RCC (reinforced cement concrete) pool costs about ₹2,500–4,500 per sq ft of water surface in 2026.
  • A typical 15 × 30 ft home pool lands at roughly ₹11–20 lakh.
  • Deck, heating, lighting and approvals are often outside the pool-only price.
  • Keep a 10–15% contingency and compare itemised quotes.

Swimming pool construction cost in India is about ₹2,500–4,500 per sq ft of water surface for an RCC pool. Treat these as budgeting ranges, not quotes.

How Much Does Swimming Pool Construction Cost in India?

A private in-ground pool in India usually costs ₹5–36 lakh, depending on size. Plunge pools cost less; overflow pools cost more.

Pool type, depth, finish, equipment and soil all move the price. Older guides quote ₹1,400–3,500 per sq ft for concrete pools, while 2026 builder guides quote ₹2,500–4,500, so confirm current local rates.

What Is the Swimming Pool Construction Cost per Sq Ft?

Contractors usually quote per sq ft of water surface, not built area. Ask whether the rate includes excavation, filtration, tiles and lighting.

The formula
Pool budget = (Length × Width × rate per sq ft) + extras + contingency
Extras are items quoted separately, such as decking and heating. Contingency is usually 10–15%.

Small pools cost more per sq ft, because the pump and filter cost spreads over less area.

Which Pool Type Is Cheapest: Concrete, Fibreglass or Vinyl Liner?

A vinyl liner pool is the cheapest in-ground option. An RCC pool costs the most but allows any shape and size.

Swimming pool cost per sq ft by type

Indicative 2026 ranges
Pool type₹ per sq ftBest for
Above-ground / readymade Budget₹800–1,500Temporary or terrace use
Vinyl liner₹1,200–2,000Lowest-cost in-ground pool
Fibreglass (FRP)₹1,800–3,500Fast install, standard sizes

Studio Matrx (June 2026) and HouseYog (September 2026). Vinyl liners typically need replacing every 5–10 years.

RCC pool, 15 × 30 ft

Recommended

About ₹11–20 lakh.

  • Any shape, depth or overflow edge
  • Longest life with good waterproofing
  • Built on site, no transport limits
  • Takes 10–16 weeks to build

Fibreglass pool, 15 × 30 ft

Faster

About ₹8–13 lakh.

  • Fixed factory shapes and sizes
  • Smooth shell, easier cleaning
  • Truck and crane access needed
  • Installs in about 2–4 weeks

A plain rectangle is the cheapest shape. Overflow pools need a balance tank (a tank that catches spill-over water) and cost about 15–20% more than skimmer pools.

What Factors Push the Price Up or Down?

Size, depth and finish set most of the price. Site conditions and extras decide the rest.

  • Size and depth: a deeper pool needs more excavation, concrete and TMT bars.
  • Finish: glass mosaic costs more than ceramic tiles or paint.
  • Soil and groundwater: rock or a high water table raises digging and dewatering cost.
  • Site access: no room for an excavator means slower manual digging.

Common extras outside a basic pool quote

Indicative 2026 ranges
ItemIndicative cost
Filtration (sand filter and pump)₹60,000–3,00,000
LED underwater lighting₹15,000–60,000
Heat pump₹1.2–3 lakh
Decking, coping and landscaping₹1–6 lakh+
Studio Matrx, June 2026. Coping is the edge stone that caps the pool wall.
Terrace pools need a structural engineer first

Water weighs 1,000 kg per cubic metre, so a 1.5 m (5 ft) deep pool loads the slab with about 14.7 kN/m². IS 875 (Part 2), the Indian code for imposed loads, assumes 2.0 kN/m² for residential floors. Get the slab certified first.

Building in Bengaluru? Plan the water supply

A BWSSB circular of 4 July 2026 banned filling pools with drinking water (₹5,000 fine). Budget for tanker or borewell water and check whether the order still applies.

How Long Does Pool Construction Take, and What Are the Stages?

An RCC pool takes about 10–16 weeks from excavation to commissioning. A fibreglass pool installs in about 2–4 weeks.

Week1–2

Excavation and PCC base

Dig the pit and lay a plain concrete base.

Week3–6

Steel and RCC shell

Cast the walls and floor, then cure.

Week7–9

Waterproofing and water test

Coat the shell and fill it to check for leaks.

4 Month

Tiling, plumbing and commissioning

Tile, fit filtration, fill and hand over.

A monsoon start can add 3–4 weeks. Do not rush waterproofing; our guide to water seepage causes and fixes shows why.

How Do You Get an Accurate Swimming Pool Quote?

Get itemised quotes from at least three contractors for the same specification.

  1. Fix the pool size, depth and type.
  2. Get a soil test for rock and groundwater.
  3. Ask for a line-item bill of quantities (BOQ), with pump and filter brands.
  4. Get exclusions in writing.
  5. Tie payments to finished milestones.
  • A single lump sum with no breakdown
  • No waterproofing or water test listed
  • Excavation, soil disposal or electricals missing
  • No warranty on shell or equipment

Plan for running costs too: about ₹2,000–3,000 a month for DIY upkeep, or ₹30,000–1,50,000 a year for an annual maintenance contract (AMC).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to build an in-ground swimming pool in India?

Most private in-ground pools cost about ₹5–36 lakh, depending on size and type. A 15 × 30 ft RCC pool is roughly ₹11–20 lakh.

How to calculate swimming pool construction cost?

Multiply the water surface area by the rate per sq ft. Add separately quoted extras, then a 10–15% contingency.

What factors affect the total cost of building a swimming pool?

Size, depth, pool type and finish set most of the cost. Soil, site access, city rates and extras change the rest.

How do the costs of gunite, fiberglass and vinyl liner pools compare?

Concrete pools, including gunite (sprayed concrete), cost about ₹2,500–4,500 per sq ft. Fibreglass runs about ₹1,800–3,500 and vinyl liner about ₹1,200–2,000.

What items should be included in a realistic swimming pool construction budget?

Include excavation, shell, waterproofing, tiles, plumbing, filtration, lighting, decking and approvals. Add filling water and a 10–15% contingency.

How much do optional extras like lighting, heating, safety features and premium finishes add to pool cost?

LED lighting costs about ₹15,000–60,000 and a heat pump about ₹1.2–3 lakh. Decking and landscaping add ₹1–6 lakh or more.

Does the city or location change what a pool costs to build?

Yes. Metro cities usually have higher labour and material rates than smaller towns. Local soil and water rules, such as Bengaluru's BWSSB curbs, also matter.

What pool shape is the cheapest?

A simple rectangle is the cheapest shape to build. Curves and overflow edges add formwork, plumbing and labour.
