Dongcheng Demolition Hammer 5kg (DZG-6S) is a 1,050 W breaker delivering 10.1 J per blow through a 17 mm hex chuck. At 5 kg it sits in the light-to-medium class — heavy enough to strip tile, plaster, and screed quickly, light enough to hold up to a wall or above your head without your arms giving out after ten minutes.

That weight class is the point. A 7 kg breaker hits harder but is punishing for vertical and overhead work, which is most of what renovation actually involves: taking tile off bathroom walls, chipping out old plaster, breaking up a floor screed. An anti-vibration handle system reduces the shock transmitted to the operator, which matters over a full day of continuous chipping.

Key Features

  • 10.1 J impact energy: Enough to break tile, plaster, screed, and light concrete
  • 5 kg body: Manageable for vertical and overhead work where a heavier breaker isn't
  • Anti-vibration handle: Reduces operator fatigue over sustained chipping
  • 17 mm hex chuck: Takes widely available chisels and points
  • 1,050 W motor: Sustained breaking without bogging down

Usage and Safety Guidelines

Important — Read Before Use

  • Confirm the wall is not structural and scan for buried cable and pipe before you start breaking
  • Full PPE is mandatory: goggles, N95 dust mask, gloves, ear defenders, and safety boots
  • Take vibration breaks: Continuous breaker use over hours risks hand-arm vibration injury — rotate operators or rest regularly
  • Never work directly overhead without eye protection and a hard hat — falling debris is the common injury here
  • Let the tool's weight do the work; leaning on it reduces impact efficiency and overheats the motor
  • Grease the chisel shank before insertion and check the retainer is fully engaged

Recommended Applications

Where this breaker fits best

  • Bathroom and kitchen renovation: Stripping wall and floor tile
  • Plaster removal: Taking back walls to brick before replastering
  • Screed breaking: Lifting old floor screed and levelling compound
  • Wall chasing: Cutting service routes for electrical and plumbing
  • Overhead and vertical work: Where a 7 kg breaker is too heavy to control

1) Should I buy the 5 kg or the 7 kg model?

Choose the 5 kg DZG-6S for vertical, overhead, and finishing demolition — tile, plaster, screed. Choose the 6.8 kg DZG06-6S for floor-level breaking of thicker concrete, where its 16.8 J does the job faster. If most of your work is on walls, the lighter tool wins on control and fatigue.

2) What chisels does it take?

Standard 17 mm hex shank chisels — flat, point, and spade types are all widely available. Match the chisel to the task: point for concentrated breaking, flat for stripping tile and plaster.

3) Can it drill holes as well?

No. A demolition hammer is hammer action only, with no rotation. To drill concrete you need the DZC05-26B rotary hammer.

4) How long can I run it continuously?

Watch two limits: motor heat and your hands. Give the tool rest periods on long jobs and keep the vents clear. Just as important, take regular breaks from vibration exposure — sustained breaker work is a recognised cause of hand-arm vibration injury.

5) Is it powerful enough to break a concrete floor?

For thin slabs, screed, and light concrete, yes. For thick structural concrete or reinforced sections, the 16.8 J DZG06-6S is the appropriate tool — this one will get there but far more slowly and with more wear on the machine.
