Dongcheng Impact Drill 13mm (DZJ02-13) is a 500 W two-mode drill that switches between plain rotary drilling and hammer action, so one tool handles both wood and metal work and holes in brick or light concrete. It's the everyday workhorse for electricians, carpenters, and maintenance teams who need a single drill that covers most of a working day.

The dial-type mode selector keeps the switch between drilling and impact simple, and stepless variable speed on the trigger lets you start a hole slowly for accuracy before opening up. Forward and reverse rotation means it doubles as a screwdriver for driving and backing out fasteners. An aluminium gear case sits behind the plastic housing, which is what carries the load and keeps the gear train aligned under hammer duty.

Key Features

  • Two modes in one tool: Rotary drilling for wood and metal, impact drilling for masonry
  • Stepless variable speed: Feather the trigger to start holes accurately without the bit walking
  • Forward and reverse rotation: Drives and removes screws as well as drilling
  • Aluminium gear case: Holds the gear train true under sustained hammer action
  • 2.0 kg light body: Manageable overhead and in confined spaces

Recommended Applications

Where this drill fits best

  • Electrical work: Anchor holes for conduit clips, boards, and fittings in brick walls
  • Carpentry and joinery: Pilot and clearance holes up to Ø25 mm in timber
  • Light fabrication: Holes up to Ø10 mm in mild steel sections
  • Home installation: Wall plugs for shelves, TV brackets, and curtain rails
  • General maintenance: One drill covering most day-to-day site tasks

1) What is the difference between an impact drill and a rotary hammer?

An impact drill like this one adds a rapid vibration to the rotation, which is enough for brick and light concrete. A rotary hammer uses a piston mechanism delivering far higher energy per blow and is what you need for reinforced concrete and heavy repetitive drilling. For occasional masonry holes, this drill is the right tool; for daily concrete work, look at the DZC05-26B.

2) Does "13mm" mean it drills 13mm holes in steel?

No — and this catches people out. 13 mm is the concrete capacity and the chuck size. Maximum capacity in steel is Ø10 mm and in wood Ø25 mm. Pushing a 13 mm bit through steel will stall the motor and can burn out the armature.

3) Can I use it as a screwdriver?

Yes. It has forward and reverse rotation plus variable speed, so it drives and removes screws. Switch to plain drill mode first — never drive screws with the impact function engaged, as the hammering will chew up the screw head.

4) What is a "plastic body" version and does it affect durability?

It refers to the outer housing. The gear case inside is aluminium — that's the part carrying mechanical load. The plastic housing keeps weight down and adds a layer of electrical insulation between you and the motor.

5) What safety gear do I need?

Safety goggles at minimum. When impact drilling masonry, add an N95 dust mask — drilling concrete and brick releases fine silica dust — plus gloves and ear protection. Always fit the auxiliary handle; if a bit binds in the hole, the tool will twist hard and the side handle is what lets you keep hold of it.
