CERA Bottle Trap is the waste fitting that sits between a wash basin's outlet and the drain — and it does one job that everything else in the bathroom depends on: it holds a small volume of water permanently in its body, and that water seal is what stops drain gases and odour rising back into the room.

The reason it's called a bottle trap rather than a P-trap is the shape, and the shape exists for appearance. Under a table-top or wall-hung basin the waste pipework is fully visible, and a neat chrome cylinder is designed to look intentional there in a way a corrugated plastic P-trap never does. It also has a practical advantage: the body unscrews from below, so clearing hair and debris — or retrieving a dropped earring — takes a minute without dismantling pipework.

Two lengths are offered. Choose based on the vertical distance between your basin outlet and the drain point — that distance is set by your basin height and where the plumber ran the waste, so measure before ordering.

Size Comparison

1) Which size do I need — 150 mm or 300 mm?

Measure the vertical distance from your basin outlet to the wall drain point. A short drop takes the 150 mm; a longer drop needs the 300 mm. This is a fit question, not a style one — if in doubt, ask your plumber to measure before you order.

2) Why use a bottle trap instead of a plastic P-trap?

Two reasons. Appearance — under an exposed basin the trap is on show, and a chrome cylinder looks deliberate where a corrugated plastic pipe doesn't. And serviceability — the body unscrews to clear debris or recover a dropped item.

3) What does the trap actually do?

It holds a permanent water seal in its body. That water physically blocks drain gases and odour from rising into the bathroom. Without a trap, or if the seal dries out, you get smells.

4) How do I clean it?

Unscrew the lower body with a bowl underneath to catch the water, clear out hair and debris, and screw it back hand-tight. Doing this occasionally prevents slow-draining basins.

5) Do I need anything else with it?

Yes — a waste coupling seats in the basin outlet and the trap connects to it. It's a separate purchase, and we stock both full and half thread versions.
