CERA Waste Coupling is the fitting that seats into the drain hole of a wash basin — the chrome ring and grating you see in the bottom of the bowl. It does two jobs at once: it forms the watertight seal between the basin and the waste pipework below, and it screens larger debris out of the drain line.

It is a small component that gets a hard life. It sits in permanent contact with standing water, soap, and toothpaste, and it's the joint that has to stay watertight for the life of the basin — a failed coupling means water into the cabinet or onto the floor, not a drip you can ignore.

Two thread types are offered, and the difference is about which basin thickness and installation arrangement they suit. Full thread gives a longer threaded shank with more adjustment for thicker basin bases or counters; half thread is shorter, for thinner ceramic. Getting this right matters — a shank that's too short won't reach the backnut, and one that's too long can bottom out before it clamps tight.

Full Thread or Half Thread?

  • Full Thread (F8050101): Longer threaded shank — more adjustment for thicker basin bases or countertop installations
  • Half Thread (F8050102): Shorter shank — for thinner basin bases where a full thread would be unnecessary
  • If you're replacing an existing coupling, take the old one out and match the thread length — that is the most reliable way to choose
  • If in doubt, ask your plumber to check the basin base thickness before you order
  • You will also need a bottle trap, which connects below this coupling and is sold separately

Key Features

  • Watertight basin seal: The critical joint between bowl and waste pipework
  • Debris screening: Grating keeps larger solids out of the drain line
  • Two thread lengths: Full or half, to suit different basin base thicknesses
  • Chrome finish: Matches standard bathroom fittings and stays bright in constant water contact
  • Visible fitting done properly: Sits in the bowl where everyone sees it

Variant Comparison

Thread Type Cat. No. Choose when
Full Thread F8050101 Thicker basin base or countertop installation needing more adjustment
Half Thread F8050102 Thinner basin base where a shorter shank is sufficient

1) What's the difference between full thread and half thread?

The length of the threaded shank that passes through the basin. Full thread gives more adjustment for a thicker basin base or counter; half thread is shorter, for thinner ceramic. It's a fit question — match it to your basin.

2) How do I know which one my basin needs?

If you're replacing an existing coupling, take the old one out and match it — that's the most reliable method. For a new basin, ask your plumber to check the base thickness before you order.

3) How is a waste coupling installed?

It seats into the basin's drain hole from above with a sealing washer beneath, then a backnut is tightened from underneath to clamp it. Plumber's sealant on the seating face makes it watertight. The trap then connects to the threaded outlet below.

4) Does it come with the trap?

No — the coupling is the basin-side fitting only. You also need a bottle trap to carry water to the drain and block odour. We stock them in 150 mm and 300 mm.

5) Why does my basin leak underneath?

Most often a failed washer or insufficient sealant at the coupling's seating face, or a backnut that has worked loose. Because the coupling sits in permanent standing water, it's the first thing to check when a basin leaks.
