Application Guidelines
Step-by-Step Application
-
Surface preparation: Substrate must be structurally sound, fully cured, dry, and free from laitance, sealers, oils, and dust.
-
Mix: Add 5 to 5.5 litres of clean water to a clean bucket, slowly add the powder, and mix with a slow-speed paddle until smooth and lump-free. Slake for 5 minutes, then remix briefly before use.
-
Spread: Press the mortar firmly into the substrate with the flat trowel edge, then comb horizontally with a square-notched trowel to form uniform ridges.
-
Set tiles: Bed tiles into the wet ridges within 10 minutes. Tap firmly with a rubber mallet for full, hollow-free coverage.

FAQs
1) Can LATICRETE® 303 be used for exterior cladding on high-rise buildings?
No - it is engineered for interior dry area installations only. For exterior facades exposed to wind loads and weather, higher-flex polymer formulations such as LATICRETE® 325 or 335 must be specified instead.
2) Can I substitute the mixing water with a latex admix for better performance?
Yes - replacing plain water with a MYK Laticrete latex admix will enhance bond strength, flexibility, and shock absorption of the mortar bed, upgrading performance for more demanding applications.
3) Is this suitable for large-format vitrified tiles or tile-on-tile installations?
No - LATICRETE® 303 is an economy thinset optimised for small to medium ceramic formats and small natural stones. Large-format vitrified tiles or tile-on-tile applications require a higher-grade modification such as LATICRETE® 315 Plus or 325.
4) How much water do I add to one 20 kg bag?
Add approximately 5 to 5.5 litres of clean water per 20 kg bag. Mix with a slow-speed paddle until smooth and lump-free, allow 5 minutes to slake, then remix briefly before applying to the substrate.
5) How long after laying can the tiles be walked on?
Avoid foot traffic until the adhesive has achieved sufficient initial set - typically 24 hours under normal site conditions. Allow full cure before grouting. Curing time may be longer in cold or humid conditions.
