Asian Paints WoodTech NC Sanding Sealer is a single-pack, economical nitrocellulose undercoat for interior wood finishes. It fills timber pores cleanly to give a smooth base before a clear topcoat, grips the finish that follows, and goes on quickly by brush, rag or spray. It can sit under NC lacquer, varnish, polish, acid-cure systems and one-component (1K) PU topcoats such as WoodTech Touchwood 1K PU. It needs no hardener — just thin it with the right thinner. It comes in 500 ml, 1 Litre and 4 Litre cans.
Key Features
- Very Fast Drying: Surface dry in 10 minutes and tack-free in 30, which speeds up the coat cycle
- Superior Grain Filling: Fills timber pores for a smooth, even base
- Single Pack, No Mixing: No hardener needed; apply straight from the can, thinned as required

Application Instructions
- Prepare: Sand the wood with grade 180 paper, then a finer grade 320, and wipe it clean. Fill any dents with a compatible wood filler
- Thin: Dilute with WoodTech A1 or A1 Gold Thinner only, up to 150% by volume, to a workable consistency. Under-thinning makes it impossible to brush or spray evenly, and MTO or turpentine oil curdles the resin
- First Coat: Apply by brush, rag or spray along the grain. It is tack-free in about 30 minutes
- Sand: Wait at least 2 to 3 hours, then sand lightly with 320- or 400-grit waterproof emery paper and wipe off the dust. Sanding earlier traps solvent and blisters the topcoat
- Second Coat: Apply a second coat. On highly porous, open-grain woods such as oak or rosewood, add a third
- Topcoat: Let the sealer dry overnight before applying your final lacquer or other topcoat

1) How much should I thin the sealer?
Up to 150% by volume with WoodTech A1 Multi-purpose Thinner or A1 Gold Universal Thinner only, so a 1 Litre can may take up to about 1.5 Litres of thinner. Don't use MTO or turpentine oil, which will curdle the nitrocellulose resin instantly, and don't under-thin, as it then can't be brushed or sprayed evenly. Follow the ratio printed on the can too, as it can vary with the batch and application method.
2) How many coats should I apply?
Two coats are typically recommended for good pore filling and a uniform finish. On highly porous hardwoods with deep, open grain, such as coarse oak or rosewood, a third coat may be needed. Sand between coats once the sealer is dry enough.
3) When can I sand it, and with what?
It is tack-free in about 30 minutes, but wait at least 2 to 3 hours before sanding. Then use 320- or 400-grit waterproof emery paper, lightly along the grain until the surface feels flat and uniform, and wipe off the powder with a clean lint-free cloth.
4) How long before I can put the final topcoat on?
Leave it to dry overnight before the final lacquer topcoat. Sanding or topcoating at around 45 minutes traps volatile esters underneath and blisters the finish.
5) Can I use it under a PU topcoat?
Yes, for one-component (1K) PU topcoats such as WoodTech Touchwood 1K PU, and also under NC lacquer, varnish, polish and acid-cure systems. For two-component (2K), catalysed or cross-linked PU and melamine systems, check that topcoat's own recommendation, as these sometimes need a dedicated matching sealer.
6) Which can size should I choose?
The 500 ml can suits small touch-ups or one piece of furniture. The 1 Litre can covers a medium job such as a few chairs or a cabinet. The 4 Litre can suits larger furniture sets or workshop projects. Coverage is about 180–200 sq ft per litre per coat.
