TP-Link Ceiling Mount Access Point is an Omada business access point in two grades — the EAP225 (AC1350) and the higher-capacity EAP245 (AC1750) — mounted on a ceiling and powered over its network cable.
A ceiling access point solves a problem a router cannot. A router sits wherever the broadband line enters, usually a corner of the building, and radiates outward from there — so the far rooms get whatever is left after two walls and a floor. An access point mounted centrally in the ceiling radiates downward and outward from the middle of the space, which is why one AP often covers better than a more powerful router in the wrong place.
Because they are PoE powered, there is no need for a socket in the ceiling — a single Ethernet run from a PoE switch carries both power and data. For multiple units, the Omada controller manages them as one network, so a device walking from room to room hands over between access points without dropping the connection.

- An access point is not a router. It extends an existing network; you still need a router for internet

1) How is this better than a WiFi extender?
An extender repeats a weak signal and typically halves throughput. A ceiling access point has its own wired connection back to the network, so it delivers full speed. It is a genuinely different class of solution.
2) Do I still need my router?
Yes. An access point provides WiFi coverage, not internet. Your router still handles the connection; the AP extends wireless coverage over it.
