Sealant Gun is the trigger-operated applicator for cartridge sealants and adhesives — silicone around a sink or shower tray, acrylic filler into wall cracks, polyurethane on an external joint, or construction adhesive behind a panel.

What a gun really gives you is control. Sealant squeezed from a cartridge by hand goes on in an uneven, lumpy line that has to be tooled hard to look acceptable. A gun meters the flow steadily, so you can move along a joint at constant speed and lay a bead that needs barely any smoothing. Over a kitchen counter or a row of window frames, that is the difference between a neat job and an afternoon of rework.

This is a plastic skeleton frame gun, and the open cutouts down the barrel are more useful than they look: you can see at a glance how much sealant is left in the cartridge, so you know whether a joint can be finished before you start it. A plastic body is also noticeably lighter than a steel one, which matters when the gun is held up at head height along a ceiling line.

The seal puncture pin clipped to the frame is the small detail people actually appreciate. Every cartridge has a foil seal under the nozzle that has to be pierced before the sealant will flow, and without a pin on the gun that means hunting around site for a nail or a screwdriver. Having it attached means it is there when you need it.

1) How do I get a neat bead?

Three things. Pierce the foil seal under the nozzle with the pin on the gun — the sealant will not flow until you do. Cut the nozzle at about 45 degrees, and cut the opening no wider than the joint, since a too-large opening is the usual cause of a messy bead. Then move at a steady speed and tool the bead promptly, before a skin forms.

2) Why does sealant keep coming out after I stop squeezing?

Because the plunger is still under pressure. Release it as soon as you finish a bead and lift the nozzle away cleanly rather than dragging it along the joint. Releasing a moment before you reach the end of a run, and letting the residual flow finish it, gives the cleanest stop.

3) Which colour will I receive?

Colour varies — these are supplied in assorted colours and we cannot guarantee a particular one. The gun is mechanically identical whichever colour arrives, and colour is not a return reason on this item.
