Makita AF506 Pneumatic Brad Nailer drives 18 gauge brad nails from 15 mm to 50 mm into hard and soft wood, with a 100-nail magazine and a body weighing just 1.3 kg. It's the finishing nailer for beading, architrave, skirting, panelling, and light furniture assembly — jobs where an 18 gauge brad leaves a hole small enough to fill invisibly.
This is a pneumatic tool and needs an air compressor to run. It has no motor and no battery: compressed air drives the piston. You'll need a compressor capable of delivering 0.49–0.83 MPa (70–120 PSI) plus a suitable air hose and coupling, and none of that is included. Please read the compatibility note below before ordering.
The details are aimed at finish work where damaging the surface means starting again. A tool-less depth adjustment dial sets exactly how far each brad sinks, so you can leave it proud or set it below the surface for filling. Non-marring rubber nose and bumpers plus a nose adapter protect the workpiece from being dented or scratched. A quick-release cam-lock opens the nail guide to clear a jam in seconds, a clear window shows remaining nails, and a built-in air duster blows dust off the work or the floor without changing tools.
Before You Order — Air Compressor Required
- This nailer will not operate on its own. It is a pneumatic tool with no motor or battery and must be connected to an air compressor
- Required operating pressure: 0.49–0.83 MPa (70–120 PSI). Your compressor must be able to deliver and hold pressure in that range
- You will also need an air hose and coupling to match your compressor's fitting — not supplied with the nailer
- Check air delivery, not just pressure. A compressor that reaches 120 PSI but has a small tank or low delivery rate will struggle to keep up during continuous nailing
- Supplied with the tool: safety goggles, nose adapter, hook, and oil supply (market dependent) — no compressor, hose, or nails
- If you're unsure whether your compressor suits this nailer, contact us with its pressure and delivery rating and we'll confirm before you order
Key Features
- Tool-less depth adjustment dial: Set exactly how deep each brad sinks, without a spanner
- Non-marring nose and bumpers: Protects finished surfaces from denting and scratching

- 100-nail magazine with clear window: See how many brads are left before you run out mid-run
- Built-in air duster: Blow dust off the work or floor without swapping tools
- 1.3 kg with slim soft grip: Comfortable for overhead and extended finishing work
- Compatible with EN ISO 11148-13

Usage and Safety Guidelines
Important — Read Before Use
- Never point the nailer at anyone, including yourself, connected or not
- Disconnect the air supply before clearing a jam, loading nails, or adjusting depth
- Never exceed 0.83 MPa (120 PSI) — over-pressure can cause the tool to fail
- Wear the supplied safety goggles — brads can deflect off knots and hardware
- Keep your free hand well clear of the nose; a brad can pass through thin stock or deflect sideways
- Check what is behind the workpiece — a 50 mm brad will pass through thin material
- Never carry the tool with your finger on the trigger while the air line is connected
Recommended Applications
Where this nailer fits best
- Beading and architrave: Fixing trim around doors and windows
- Skirting and cornice: Fast fixing with holes small enough to fill invisibly
- Panelling: Wall panelling and decorative timber work
- Furniture assembly: Back panels, drawer bottoms, and light joinery
- Interior fitouts: High-volume finishing work where hand nailing is too slow
1) Do I need an air compressor, and is one included?
Yes you need one, and no it isn't included. The AF506 is a pneumatic tool with no motor or battery — it runs entirely on compressed air. You'll need a compressor delivering 0.49–0.83 MPa (70–120 PSI), plus an air hose and coupling, all sold separately. Check air delivery rate as well as maximum pressure: a compressor that reaches 120 PSI but has a small tank will struggle during continuous nailing.
2) What nails does it take?
18 gauge brad nails from 15 mm to 50 mm, up to 100 in the magazine. Nails are consumables and sold separately — order a supply alongside the tool.
3) What is an 18 gauge brad nailer used for?
Finishing work. An 18 gauge brad is thin enough to leave a hole you can fill invisibly, which is what you want for beading, architrave, skirting, and panelling. It's not a framing nailer — it won't fix structural timber.
4) How do I clear a jammed nail?
Disconnect the air supply first, then use the quick-release cam-lock to open the nail guide assembly, remove the jammed brad, and close it. It's designed to take seconds rather than requiring the nose to be stripped down.
5) Will it damage the surface of finished timber?
It's designed not to. Non-marring rubber nose and bumpers plus a supplied nose adapter protect the workpiece, and the tool-less depth dial lets you set exactly how far the brad sinks. Test on an offcut of the same material first to dial in the depth.
