LOCTITE Powergrab Mirror Construction Adhesive is a one-part flexible mirror assembly adhesive from Henkel, built on Flextec® Technology, supplied in a 440gm cartridge. It is specifically engineered to solve the three main failures of standard mirror mounting methods: chemical damage from silicone sealants that bleeds into the mirror silver backing causing dark spots, lack of initial grab requiring clamps and masking tape, and the irreversibility of double-sided tapes that allow no adjustment. The Powergrab Mirror formula is silver-safe, odour-free, and delivers instant grab up to 350 kg/m² on contact.

The bond remains correctable for 10 minutes after pressing, allowing precise levelling and alignment of large mirrors. Works on both porous and non-porous substrates, including damp and humid bathroom walls. Full structural cure in 24 hours. Compatible with plywood, MDF, concrete, brick, tiled walls, metal, glass, and uPVC.

1) Why use a dedicated mirror adhesive instead of regular silicone or double-sided tape?

Standard silicone sealants contain acetic acid that chemically bleeds into the mirror's silver backing, causing permanent dark spots and discolouration over time - a problem that typically appears months after installation. Double-sided tape offers limited long-term strength and allows no repositioning once the mirror touches the wall. Regular construction adhesives are not formulated to protect the silver backing. 2) Does the mirror hold without masking tape or clamps while curing?

Yes - the 350 kg/m² instant grab holds the mirror flat against the wall on contact without sliding, eliminating the need for masking tape X-supports or mechanical clamps. For very large or heavy mirrors, temporary support at the bottom (a timber ledge or wall bracket to carry the weight) is recommended as a precaution while the bond reaches full structural cure at 24 hours.

3) How should I apply the adhesive to the back of the mirror?

Apply in continuous vertical strands on the back of the mirror - minimum 5mm bead thickness, spaced approximately four fingers (about 80-100mm) apart. Never apply in closed circles or loops - trapped moisture inside a closed bead ring significantly delays curing and can cause weak spots in the bond. Vertical strands allow moisture to escape and the adhesive to cure properly from all sides.

4) Can I use this on a damp bathroom wall without drying it first?

Yes - the Flextec® Technology formulation is specifically designed to bond on damp and humid surfaces, making it suitable for bathroom installations where surfaces may have residual moisture. You do not need to wait for the wall to fully dry before applying the mirror. This is one of the key advantages over standard silicone sealants, which require clean, dry surfaces for optimal bonding.

5) How long before I can clean the mirror after installation?

Allow a full 24 hours for the adhesive to reach full structural cure before cleaning, loading, or disturbing the mirror. During the first 24 hours, avoid applying lateral force, cleaning sprays, or steam near the bonded area. After full cure, the mirror can be cleaned normally using standard glass cleaners.
