LOCTITE General Purpose Sealant (White) is a ready-to-use acetoxy silicone sealant from Henkel that cures at room temperature on contact with air moisture. It provides a completely waterproof, flexible, and crack-resistant seal with excellent primerless adhesion to aluminium profiles, PVC window frames, painted wood, and coated glass - with no primer required on most common substrates. The anti-mould, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial formula actively prevents black mould and mildew growth along the bead in damp environments.

  1. Surface preparation: All joint surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, oil, grease, old silicone, and soap films. Clean surfaces are essential for proper adhesion.
  2. Prepare cartridge: Cut the threaded tip, screw on the applicator nozzle, and cut the nozzle tip at a 45-degree angle to match the required gap size.
  3. Apply: Load into a standard caulking gun. Hold at a 45-degree angle and apply a steady bead, filling the joint completely in one pass.
  4. Tool the bead: Smooth within 5-10 minutes using a wet tooling pad or a gloved finger dipped in mild soapy water to form a clean, concave joint profile.
  5. Cure: Allow 24 hours undisturbed before exposing the joint to water spray or mechanical stress.

No - this is an acetoxy cure silicone, which releases acetic acid during curing. This acid chemically bleeds into the mirror's silver backing and causes permanent dark spots and discolouration over time. For mirror installation, use a neutral cure silicone or the LOCTITE Powergrab Mirror adhesive, which is specifically formulated to be silver-safe. This is the most important limitation to be aware of when selecting a silicone sealant for bathroom use.

2) How long does it take to cure and when can the joint be exposed to water?

The sealant develops a surface skin quickly after application. However, allow a full 24 hours before exposing the joint to water spray, cleaning, or mechanical stress.
