Gyproc GI Ceiling Angle is the L-shaped section fixed to the structural soffit — the underside of the slab — to provide the suspension points a false ceiling hangs from, in a 3660 mm (12 foot) length.

It sits at the very top of the load path, and that is what makes it the most important component in the grid to get right. The entire weight of the finished ceiling passes through these fixings and into the building structure: every board, every ceiling section, every intermediate channel, every light fitting recessed into it. Which means the fixing into the soffit is the single most safety-critical fixing in the whole job. It has to go into sound structural concrete, using an anchor rated for the load, at the spacing the design specifies. A perimeter channel fixed badly gives you a visibly uneven ceiling; a soffit fixing that fails gives you a ceiling on the floor, and it comes down all at once rather than gradually.

The rest follows the pattern of the Gyproc range. It is galvanised steel, because a ceiling void is humid, unventilated and never inspected, and plain steel corrodes there for years before anything is visible. The knurled surface gives screws something to bite into rather than skating across smooth steel. And at 3660 mm it matches the ceiling section, intermediate channel and perimeter channel — one standard length right across the grid.

1) What does the ceiling angle do?

It provides the suspension points from the structural soffit — the underside of the slab. It is fixed to the concrete, and the hangers carrying the intermediate channels are suspended from it. In short, it is the connection between the building structure and the entire ceiling below.

No — this is the angle only. The anchors that fix it to the slab and the hangers or suspension rod that hang from it are separate items, and the correct anchor depends on your slab and the design load of the ceiling.

4) Is it the same length as the other Gyproc sections?

Yes — 3660 mm (12 feet), the same as the ceiling section, intermediate channel and perimeter channel. That means one standard length across the entire grid, which simplifies both ordering and cutting.

5) Is this everything I need for a false ceiling?

No — this is the suspension component. A complete grid also needs intermediate channels, ceiling sections, perimeter channels and connecting clips, plus anchors and hangers, plasterboard, drywall screws, joint tape and jointing compound.
