Faber Slim-X Safe is a filterless auto-clean kitchen chimney with a BLDC motor and 1500 m³/hr of suction, in a slim black body — available in 60 cm, 75 cm and 90 cm.

The BLDC motor is the engineering that matters here, and it explains the warranty. A conventional chimney motor uses carbon brushes that make physical contact to transfer current, and those brushes wear down — they are the part that eventually fails. A brushless motor has none, which is why Faber can back it for 12 years. It also runs cooler, draws less power, and is markedly quieter at the same airflow, which is the difference between a chimney you run on high and one you turn down because of the noise.

1500 m³/hr is a lot of suction for a domestic kitchen. It suits a larger or open-plan kitchen, or any household doing heavy frying and tempering daily — the cooking that fills a room with smoke in seconds. In a small, well-ventilated kitchen with light cooking it is more than needed, and a lower-rated chimney costs less.

Filterless means the motor is sealed, so oil and vapour never reach it. In a conventional chimney the filter exists to protect the motor, which is why a neglected filter eventually costs you the motor. Remove the filter and you remove both the weekly cleaning task and that failure path. The grease that still condenses is handled by Electro Thermal Autoclean, which heats the internal surfaces so the oil liquefies and drains into a collector tray — you empty a tray instead of scrubbing baffles.

Gesture control earns its place for one practical reason: your hands are usually wet, oily or holding something when you need to change the fan speed. A wave adjusts it without touching the glass. Touch control is there when you prefer it.

1) Which size should I choose?

Match it to your hob. 60 cm suits a 2–4 burner hob, 75 cm and 90 cm suit wider cooktops. The rule is that the chimney should be at least as wide as the hob, never narrower — a chimney narrower than the cooking surface lets smoke escape at the edges, which is exactly where it is hardest to catch.

2) What is a BLDC motor and why does it get a 12-year warranty?

A conventional motor uses carbon brushes that physically contact a rotating part to transfer current, and those brushes wear down — they are usually what fails. A brushless (BLDC) motor has none, so that failure path is removed. It also runs cooler, uses less power and is noticeably quieter at the same airflow. The 12-year motor warranty follows directly from that design.

3) What does filterless actually mean — is there nothing inside?

It means the motor is sealed, so oil and vapour never reach it, and there is no filter mesh for you to remove and wash. In a normal chimney the filter is what protects the motor, which is why a neglected filter eventually kills it. The grease that still condenses is dealt with by the Electro Thermal Autoclean cycle, which heats the surfaces so oil liquefies and drains into a collector tray for you to empty.

4) Is a duct pipe included?

The carton lists a kit alongside the chimney, but Faber also sells installation kits separately — so the included kit is likely mounting hardware rather than ducting. 5) Is 1500 m³/hr more than I need?

It depends on your kitchen. 1500 m³/hr suits a large or open-plan kitchen and heavy daily frying. A small, well-ventilated kitchen with light cooking is served perfectly well by a lower-rated chimney at a lower price. Bear in mind, though, that a long or bendy duct run costs suction — so headroom is rarely wasted.
