Jaquar Continental Table Top Basin (CNS-WHT-903) is a compact 425 x 340 mm vitreous china basin from Jaquar's Continental Series, designed to sit on top of a counter rather than drop into it.

The appeal of a table top basin is what it does to the vanity. A recessed basin is a hole in a slab; a table top basin is an object placed on a surface, so the counter stays visually whole and the basin reads as a deliberate piece rather than a cut-out. It also leaves the full counter usable around the bowl, which a wide inset basin does not.

At 425 x 340 mm this is one of the smaller table top basins, which makes it genuinely useful in a powder room, guest WC, or a narrow vanity where a 550 mm basin would swamp the counter. The 175 mm bowl height gives good depth for washing without splashing, but it is also the number that determines how high your counter should be built — see the note below before you order the vanity.

1) What is a table top basin, and how is it different from a counter-top one?

It sits on top of the counter rather than being recessed into it. The counter surface stays visually whole and fully usable around the bowl, and the basin becomes a deliberate design element instead of a hole in a slab.

2) How high should I build my counter?

Lower than a normal vanity, because the basin adds 175 mm on top. Aim for a finished rim height of roughly 800–850 mm and work backwards — which usually means a counter around 650–675 mm. Settle this before the carpentry is made; it cannot be changed afterwards.

3) Which tap do I need?

A tall basin mixer or a wall-mounted spout. A standard deck-mounted basin tap is too short to clear a raised bowl — it will sit below the rim and pour against the side. Choose the tap alongside the basin, not after it.

4) What else do I need to order?

A tap or mixer, a waste coupling, and a bottle trap. On a table top installation the waste pipework under the bowl is often visible, so a chrome bottle trap is the normal choice rather than a plastic P-trap. We stock all of these — ask and we will put the list together.

5) How do I keep the ceramic looking new?

Vitreous china is glazed and non-porous, so a wipe with mild detergent handles everyday cleaning. Avoid abrasive powders and strong acids, which permanently dull the glaze — once the surface loses its shine it cannot be restored.
