Fosroc Brushbond Grey is a two-component, acrylic polymer-modified cementitious coating that gives concrete and masonry a seamless waterproofing barrier. Part A (liquid polymer) and Part B (factory-graded cementitious powder) cure into a tough, breathable membrane that blocks water while letting internal moisture vapour escape. It bonds well to damp concrete and resists up to 7 m of positive water head, but only at the full 2 mm thickness, so never apply a single thin layer. It also blocks carbon dioxide and chloride ions to protect the steel reinforcement, and it is non-toxic and chloride-free, suitable for lining drinking water tanks.
Key Features
- 7 m Hydrostatic Resistance: Resists up to a 7 m positive water head when applied at 2 mm, for deep tanks and basements
- Strong Adhesion and Breathable: Bonds to damp concrete, masonry, brickwork and cement plaster, and lets vapour escape so it doesn't blister or peel
- Anti-Carbonation Barrier: Seals out carbon dioxide and chloride ions to protect the rebar from corrosion
- Seamless: A continuous liquid layer with no sheet-membrane joints to leak

Primary Applications
- Potable Water Storage: Internal lining of drinking water tanks, underground reservoirs and overhead water towers
- Wet Areas: Under-tile waterproofing in bathrooms, industrial kitchens, laundry areas and shower blocks
- Building Infrastructure: Concrete retaining walls, foundation footings, lift pits and underground sumps
- Drainage, Bridges and Marine: Irrigation channels, storm drains, culverts, bridge abutments and marine structures
Installation & Usage
- Prepare and Pre-Wet: The concrete must be clean, sound and free of oil and loose dust. Pre-wet it thoroughly with clean water to a Saturated Surface Dry (SSD) condition, with no standing puddles
- Mix: Pour the liquid (Part A) into a clean container first and slowly add the powder (Part B) while stirring. Add the clean water on site for brushability, as per the quantity in the pack's mixing instructions. Do not add more than that
- Mix Mechanically: Do not mix by hand. Use a slow-speed drill (400–500 RPM) with a spiral paddle for 3 to 5 minutes until smooth and lump-free, then let it stand for 2 minutes so trapped air escapes. Use it within 45 to 60 minutes at 30°C
- First Coat: Apply with a stiff brush or roller, in one direction, building towards a total thickness of 2 mm. Let it dry for 2 to 4 hours
- Second Coat: Apply the second coat perpendicular to the first to remove pinholes, completing the 2 mm thickness
- Floors: On high-traffic floor areas, protect the coating with a screed or mortar overlay

1) Is Fosroc Brushbond Grey a glue or contact cement?
No. Some marketplace descriptions call it "contact cement", but Brushbond Grey is a two-part, polymer-modified cementitious waterproofing coating. It makes a watertight barrier over concrete walls and floors, not a contact adhesive or structural glue.
2) Can I use it inside drinking water tanks?
Yes. It is formulated from non-toxic, non-hazardous raw materials and is chloride-free. Once the coating has fully cured for its recommended duration and the tank has been flushed thoroughly with clean water, it is suitable for contact with drinking water.
3) How thick must it be, and how many coats?
Apply it to a full 2 mm total thickness in two coats, never a single thin layer — that thickness is what achieves the 7 m pressure resistance. Apply the second coat once the first is touch-dry and stable, typically 2 to 4 hours depending on humidity, and at 90° to the first to avoid pinholes.
4) Do I add water to the mix?
Yes. Standard Brushbond needs water added on site for good brushability, in the quantity given in the pack's mixing instructions, so don't treat it as a coating that is never diluted. Don't add more than that, and don't confuse it with the Brushbond RFX or TGP lines, which use completely different liquid-to-powder ratios. If the mix starts to harden in the bucket, it has passed its pot life and must be discarded.
5) How much area does one 27.28 kg kit cover?
About 16 to 18 m² at 1 mm thickness, which means roughly 8 to 9 m² at the required 2 mm. Rough or porous concrete will take more.
6) Do I need a protective layer over it?
On high-traffic floor areas, protect the coating with a screed or mortar overlay.
