Taparia Wire Stripping Plier WS06 is a 150 mm manual stripper with sized notches for common conductor sizes, plus cutting edges and gripping jaws.
A manual stripper gives you direct control, which some electricians prefer to a self-adjusting tool. You choose the notch, so you decide exactly how the insulation is cut — useful on unusual insulation thicknesses or older cable where an automatic tool may misjudge the grip.
The discipline it demands is picking the right notch every time. Too large and the insulation is not cut through; too small and the blade bites into the copper. A nicked conductor is the outcome to avoid: the strands are partly severed, the cable carries less than its rated current, and it fails at that point years later.
Having cutting edges and gripping jaws on the same tool means one plier handles stripping, cutting and twisting conductors — fewer tools in the pouch on a wiring job.
Key Features
- Sized stripping notches: Direct control over how each conductor is stripped
- Cutting edges and gripping jaws on the same tool — strip, cut and twist without swapping
- 150 mm: Compact for a pouch and comfortable for repeated use
- Suits unusual cable where a self-adjusting tool may misjudge the grip
- Generally conforming to IS 6149-1984 Grade II. Taparia pliers are forged from high grade steel and differentially heat treated
- Made by Taparia Tools — an ISO-9001 company manufacturing hand tools in India since 1969, in technical collaboration with Bahco of Sweden

Before You Use It
- Select the notch that matches the conductor. Too large and the insulation is not cut through; too small and the blade nicks the copper
- Inspect the strands after stripping. Bright nicks in the copper mean the joint is compromised — cut back and redo it
- Insulated sleeves are for grip and comfort, not electrical protection. Unless VDE certified to 1000 V, do not use on live circuits
- Do not use pliers as a spanner — they grip on two points and round nuts
- Do not extend the handles for leverage; it springs the joint and ruins the tool
- Keep it dry and lightly oiled — hand tools rust quickly through a Bengaluru monsoon
- A drop of oil on the pivot occasionally keeps the action smooth and the joint from seizing
1) Manual or automatic stripper — which is better?
Different preferences. A manual stripper gives direct control, useful on unusual insulation or older cable. An automatic one is more consistent, especially where several people terminate cable. Many electricians carry both.
2) Why does the notch size matter?
Because getting it wrong damages the joint. Too large and the insulation is not cut through; too small and the blade bites into the copper. A nicked conductor carries less current and fails years later at that exact point.
3) How do I know if I have nicked the conductor?
Look at the strands. Bright scoring or partly severed strands mean the cable is compromised. Cut the end back and strip again — it takes ten seconds and avoids a fault nobody will be able to find later.
4) Can it cut as well as strip?
Yes — it has cutting edges and gripping jaws as well as the stripping notches, so one tool handles stripping, cutting and twisting conductors on a wiring job.
5) Is it safe for live work?
No. The insulated sleeves are for grip and comfort, not electrical protection. Isolate first, or use a VDE-certified tool rated to 1000 V.
