Asian Paints SmartCare Hydroloc is a single-component, ready-to-use penetrative waterproofing solution for interior wall dampness, seepage and efflorescence. It works directly at plaster level as a pre-putty base coat, so there is no plaster breaking or invasive wall hacking, which saves labour time and keeps the house dust-free. It dries to a tight but breathable waterproof film that blocks moisture and migrating mineral salts from reaching your paint, and can be applied over walls with up to 70% substrate moisture. The pack promises 5 years of waterproofing and efflorescence resistance.
Key Features
- No Plaster Breaking: Brush it straight onto sound existing cement plaster
- Anti-Efflorescence: Prevents the chalky white salt deposits caused by mineral migration
- Breathable, Watertight Film: Stops liquid water getting in while letting wall vapour escape, so it doesn't blister

Common Applications
- Interior Accent and Living Walls: Masonry with light to moderate ground dampness or hairline leak paths, before the finishing coats
- Bathroom and Kitchen Adjacent Plaster: The reverse or interior sides of wet areas prone to humidity transmission
- Pre-Putty Renovation Base: A protective base coat under premium wall putty on new construction or old-paint restoration
Application Guide
- Prepare: Scrape off loose material, paint flakes, peeling putty and visible salt deposits down to bare plaster with wire brushes or putty knives, and seal any active plumbing leaks first
- First Coat: Stir thoroughly and brush it on straight from the container
- Wait 4 to 6 Hours: Never apply wet-on-wet. Overcoating before the first coat has dried traps uncured liquid underneath, so the film can't anchor to the plaster and the whole paint system peels
- Second Coat: Apply the second coat the same way
- Then Putty, Primer and Paint: Apply acrylic wall putty first, then a primer, then your topcoat. Never paint directly over Hydroloc, and never dilute it or mix in exterior additives

1) Can I apply my coloured emulsion directly over Hydroloc?
No. Hydroloc is an under-putty coating at plaster level. Once it dries, apply a good acrylic wall putty for a smooth surface, then a primer, then your chosen topcoat.
2) Can I apply the second coat straight away, wet-on-wet?
No. Wait 4 to 6 hours between the first and second coats. Overcoating before the first coat has dried traps uncured liquid underneath, so the membrane can't anchor to the plaster and the whole paint system will peel.
3) Do I need to break the plaster to use it?
No. Unlike traditional interior waterproofing that means breaking down plaster to apply heavy cement coatings, Hydroloc works directly on sound existing plaster. You only need to remove loose paint and flaking putty.
4) How wet can the wall be?
Up to 70% substrate moisture content. Seal any active plumbing leaks before you start.
5) How much area does a pack cover?
About 40 to 50 sq ft per litre for the two-coat system, so the 1 Litre pack covers roughly 40–50 sq ft. Plan your quantity from the total wall area before you start.
6) Can I dilute it to stretch the coverage?
No. Apply it straight from the container, without dilution or exterior additives. Diluting weakens the waterproof film and compromises the seal against moisture and efflorescence.
