Asian Paints SmartCare Damp Block 2K is a two-component, high-solid acrylic polymer-modified cementitious coating for heavy-duty dampness and moisture problems. A liquid acrylic polymer (Part A) is mixed with a cementitious powder (Part B) at 2 : 1 by weight into a tough slurry that cures to a strong, flexible waterproofing film. The film stretches up to 100% to bridge hairline cracks up to 1.2 mm, and resists positive water pressure up to 5 bar and negative back-pressure up to 4 bar. It is the standard choice for interior vertical walls at bare brick or plaster level, sunken bathroom slabs, and stubborn salt (efflorescence) problems. The mix is only usable for 45 to 60 minutes, and the whole kit must be mixed in one go.

1) Can I add water if the slurry feels too thick?

No. Never add external water, solvents or other modifiers. Changing the engineered polymer-to-cement balance badly reduces the film's elasticity and its resistance to hydrostatic pressure.

2) Can I apply putty and emulsion paint directly over it?

Yes, on interior walls. Once the second coat has cured, you can build up acrylic putty, primer and your coloured emulsion. If you apply it to raw exterior brickwork, protect it with a cementitious screed or plaster overlay, but only after the 3-day moist cure is complete.

3) How long until it is dry and cured?

It is surface dry in about 45 minutes, and you can recoat after 4 to 6 hours. It then needs 3 days of moist curing, using a light water mist or wet gunny bags, before any plumbing work, tiling or plaster overlay.

4) Can I mix only part of the kit?

No. Partial mixing is strictly prohibited. Mix the full 2 kg powder bag into the full 1 kg liquid at once to get the right cross-linking density, and use the mix within 45 to 60 minutes at 30°C.

5) Can I use it on open roofs or terraces?

It can handle open roof areas if buried under a thick concrete screed, but it is mainly made for interior vertical walls, basements and wet bathroom sunken slabs. For fully exposed exterior terraces, use an elastomeric coating such as SmartCare Dampproof.

6) How much area does one 3 kg kit cover?

About 7.5 to 8.0 sq ft per kg across the required two coats, so a 3 kg kit covers roughly 22 to 24 sq ft. Plan your quantity from the total surface area before you start.
