SMG SPF-2 Top Patch Fitting clamps onto the top corner of a frameless glass door and acts as its upper pivot point. Its built-in metal socket fits over a standard 15 mm top pivot pin, keeping the top of the door steady and aligned as it swings, without needing a bulky door frame.

Strong internal alloy plates and non-slip rubber gaskets grip 8 – 12 mm toughened glass firmly, helping prevent the glass from shifting or scraping over time. It works with the SMG SPF-1 connecting patch (which provides the pivot pin under a glass over-panel) and an SMG floor spring at the bottom of the door. Its standard rectangular profile also makes it a good replacement for existing top patches.

1) What does the SMG SPF-2 do?

The SPF-2 clamps onto the top corner of a frameless glass door, on the side where it swings. Its built-in socket sits over a fixed top pivot pin, which keeps the top of the door stable and aligned while the floor spring supports it from below. Together, they let the glass door swing smoothly without a frame.

2) Does it include the top pivot pin?

No. The SPF-2 holds the door on a pivot pin but does not include one. If your door has a glass over-panel above it, the SMG SPF-1 connecting patch provides the pivot pin. If the door sits directly below a concrete beam or ceiling, buy a ceiling-mounted top pivot pin instead.

3) Does it control the closing of the door?

No. The SPF-2 is a free-swinging pivot fitting. The self-closing and speed control come entirely from the floor spring installed in the floor beneath the door, so a floor spring is needed for a self-closing door.

4) Can it be used on wooden or aluminium doors?

No. It is designed to clamp onto glass through a notch cut in the glass panel. For wooden or metal doors, use top pivot straps made for those materials.

5) What glass thickness does it fit?

It fits 8 mm to 12 mm toughened glass, which covers most office, shop and home glass doors. The rubber gaskets grip the glass firmly and protect it from the metal clamp plates.

6) What glass cutout does it need?

As per SMG's drawing, the door glass needs one Ø20 mm hole about 36 mm from the top edge, and a corner notch of roughly 146 x 37 mm with R80 and R55 curves (161 mm overall). Give these details or the SMG cutout drawing to your glass fabricator before the glass is toughened, as toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled afterwards.

7) What is included in the box?

One SPF-2 clamp body, two clip-on chrome cover plates, rubber protective gaskets and through-bolts. The top pivot pin, floor spring, bottom patch, handles and locks are sold separately.

8) Should I install it myself?

Glass door fittings should be installed by an experienced glass fitter. The heavy toughened glass must be aligned and clamped correctly so the door swings smoothly and safely.
