SMG Connecting Patch Fittings hold fixed, frameless glass panels firmly in place, fixing them to walls, floors and ceilings or joining them to each other. They are the main fittings for glass partitions in offices, cabins, conference rooms and shopfronts.

Choose the compact SPF-640 to fix a glass panel's edge to a wall, floor or ceiling, or the longer SPF-650 to join two glass panels in line and anchor the joint into a ceiling beam or floor. Both have a cast aluminium core, 1.2 mm SS 304 cover plates and non-slip rubber gaskets that protect the glass and hold 8 – 12 mm toughened glass securely.

1) What is the difference between SPF-640 and SPF-650?

The SPF-640 is a compact square clamp that fixes one glass panel to a wall, floor or ceiling. The SPF-650 is a longer fitting that joins two glass panels side by side along their seam and anchors the joint into the ceiling or floor. Most partitions use SPF-640 at the walls and SPF-650 between panels.

2) Can they be used to hang a door?

No. These are fixed clamps for stationary glass panels only. They have no pivot or hinge, so for a glass door you will need SMG floor springs and top and bottom patch fittings.

3) Are the wall and ceiling anchor bolts included?

No. The box includes the bolts that clamp the fitting onto the glass. The anchor bolts that fix it into the wall, floor or ceiling depend on the surface (concrete, brick or steel), so your installer will supply the right ones for your site.

4) What glass cutout do they need?

The SPF-640 needs an edge notch 26 mm deep and 34 mm high with R17 rounded corners. The SPF-650 needs two Ø14 mm holes, each 35 mm from the panel edge and 35 mm apart. Share these with your fabricator before the glass is toughened, as it cannot be cut or drilled afterwards.

5) Will the cover plates rust or discolour?

The cover plates are 1.2 mm SS 304 stainless steel, which resists rust and tarnishing well and keeps its satin finish with normal cleaning. Use mild cleaners and avoid abrasive pads.

6) Can I use them on ordinary (non-toughened) glass?

No. They are designed for 8 – 12 mm toughened safety glass. Ordinary annealed glass is not strong enough to take the clamping pressure and is unsafe in partitions.

7) Should I install them myself?

We recommend an experienced glass fitter. Large glass panels are heavy and must be anchored securely and aligned accurately for a safe, straight partition.
