Asian Paints TruCare Yellow Metal Primer is a solvent-based anti-corrosive zinc chromate alkyd undercoat that prepares metal for enamel painting. It gives excellent rust protection and corrosion prevention, and the yellow colour shows exactly where you have applied it so no spot is missed. It dries to the touch in 15–30 minutes. It is for metal only and must never be applied to alkaline masonry such as cement plaster or stone. It comes in 1 Litre and 4 Litre packs.
Key Features
- Rust and Corrosion Protection: Zinc chromate rust inhibitors guard metal under the enamel topcoat
- Yellow Coverage Indicator: Makes missed spots easy to see for complete, uniform coverage
- Fast Touch Dry: Touch dry in 15–30 minutes

Application Guidelines

- Thin the Primer: Use Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO) — 8–10% by volume for brush or roller, or 15–20% for spray. Stir thoroughly
- Apply: Brush on a thin, even coat; the yellow colour shows any missed spots
- Dry: Touch dry in 15–30 minutes, but wait a strict 10–12 hours before the enamel topcoat
- Topcoat: Apply oil-based enamel for maximum rust protection and durability
- Safety: This is a flammable product — work in a well-ventilated area and keep it away from heat, sparks and open flames

1) Why is metal primer yellow?
The yellow colour is a coverage indicator. It makes it easy to see where primer has been applied and to spot missed areas, so coverage is complete and uniform for maximum rust protection.
2) Can I use metal primer on wood surfaces?
No. It is formulated for metal, with rust inhibitors and corrosion protection. For wood, use Asian Paints TruCare White Wood Primer. The wrong primer leads to poor adhesion and early failure.
3) Can I use it on cement plaster, stone or other masonry?
No. This is a solvent-based undercoat with zinc chromate rust inhibitors and must never be applied to alkaline masonry surfaces like cement plaster or stone. Use it on metal only.
4) Do I need to remove all rust before applying?
Yes. Remove loose rust, scale and flaking paint with a wire brush, sandpaper or rust remover — the primer works best on clean, sound metal. For heavily rusted surfaces, use a rust converter first, then prime.
5) How long should I wait before painting after the primer?
It is touch dry in 15–30 minutes, but the oil-based binders need a strict 10–12 hours before the enamel topcoat. Painting at the 4-hour mark traps solvent vapours underneath and causes wrinkling, bubbling and loss of gloss.
6) How much thinner should I add?
Thin with Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO): 8–10% by volume for brush or roller, and 15–20% for spray. Measure rather than estimate, to keep the rust-protective film intact.
