Asian Paints TruStar Dry Sanding Paper is professional-grade abrasive paper for surface preparation before painting. It uses premium aluminium oxide grain on a heavy-duty D-weight kraft paper backing, and comes in six grits from coarse (80) to very fine (220) so you can sand progressively — from heavy removal, through smoothing, to final finishing — on wood, metal and plaster. It is made for dry sanding only: it has no latex coating, so water will make the backing fall apart.

1) Which grit should I use for my project?

Grit 80–100 for heavy removal such as paint stripping and rust removal. Grit 120 for general preparation. Grit 150–180 for smoothing and between-coat sanding. Grit 220 for final finishing. Choose by the surface condition and the finish you want.

2) Can I wet sand with this paper?

No. This is dry paper — aluminium oxide grain on kraft paper with no latex coating — so water makes the backing disintegrate. Use it for dry sanding only. Wet sanding needs a separate waterproof (silicon carbide) paper.

3) Should I sand between coats of paint?

Yes, light sanding between coats improves adhesion and finish. Use grit 150–180: lightly sand the primer before the topcoat, and the first topcoat before the second. Remove the dust before the next coat.

4) Can I use the same sandpaper for wood and metal?

Yes, it works on wood, metal and plaster. It wears faster on metal and plaster than on wood, so use fresh paper for each surface type and replace it when worn.

5) How do I know when sandpaper is worn out?

Replace it when the abrasive surface looks smooth or shiny, when sanding takes longer for the same effort, when the paper tears or the backing separates, when it is clogged with paint or dust that won't clean off, or when it scratches instead of smoothing.

6) Should I sand with or against the wood grain?

Always along the grain, never against it. Sanding across the grain leaves scratches that show under paint, and with very fine grit (220) sanding with the grain matters most for a professional finish.

7) Do I need to sand before applying primer?

Yes. Sanding before primer improves adhesion. Use grit 120–150 to give the primer something to grip. On new wood, light sanding removes mill glaze; on old painted surfaces, it removes the gloss.
