Product Description

Alagar Super Plast Gypsum Plaster is a ready-mix, single-coat interior wall plaster made from a natural gypsum base. It replaces the traditional two-stage sand-cement plaster process - you apply it directly over raw bricks, AAC blocks, and concrete surfaces in one coat up to 13mm thick, and it dries to a dense, crack-free, smooth finish without water curing. One 32 kg bag covers approximately 32 sq. ft. at standard 12mm thickness. The factory-controlled chemical retarders keep the mix workable for around 15 minutes - enough time for masons to apply and level each batch before it sets.

Unlike Plaster of Paris (POP), which is a thin decorative finish, Super Plast is a structural base plaster - it straightens uneven masonry, fills plumbing errors, and levels crooked surfaces before the final putty and paint coat. For interior walls and ceilings only - gypsum dissolves under continuous water exposure and is not suitable for external facades, bathrooms with direct water contact, or open balconies. Do not water-cure after application - let it dry naturally for full strength.

  • Good coverage: 1 sq. ft. per kg at 12mm thickness - 32 sq. ft. per bag
  • 15-minute workability window: Enough time to apply and level each batch before setting begins

Application Guidelines

Step-by-Step Application

  1. Prepare the surface: Clean the wall thoroughly - remove loose dust, sand, grease, and shuttering oils. Surface must be free of contaminants for the plaster to bond.
  2. Mix the plaster: Add 1.25 parts plaster powder into 1 part clean water (by weight) - always add powder into water, not the other way around. Mix mechanically for 4-5 minutes until a smooth, lump-free paste forms. For a full 32 kg bag, use approximately 25.6 litres of water.
  3. Apply immediately: Trowel the paste onto the wall surface and build up evenly to your required thickness - maximum 13mm per coat. Work within the 15-minute window before the mix begins to set.
  4. Level and float: Use an aluminium straight edge to level, then finish with a steel trowel to achieve a flat, smooth surface.
  5. Let it dry naturally: Do not water-cure. Allow the plaster to dry naturally under good ventilation for at least 72 hours before applying putty or paint.

Recommended Applications

Where Alagar Super Plast fits best

  • Internal wall leveling: Direct application over raw brickwork, solid concrete blocks, and AAC blocks to achieve a flat base surface
  • Ceiling undercoating: Filling structural pinholes and smoothing concrete ceiling slab joints before paint
  • Cement plaster repair: Restoring uneven, old, or rough internal sand-cement plaster zones
  • Surface straightening: Correcting plumbing errors, bent lines, and crooked structural columns before finishing

FAQs

1) What is the difference between this gypsum plaster and Plaster of Paris (POP)?

POP is a fast-setting decorative product used in thin layers for cornices and false ceilings - it is brittle and not suitable as a structural base. Alagar Super Plast is a structural base plaster with chemical retarders that slow the setting to about 15 minutes, allowing masons to apply thick coats up to 13mm to level raw, uneven masonry walls. Think of POP as a finishing product and Super Plast as the structural base that goes under putty and paint.

2) How much water do I add to a 32 kg bag?

Use approximately 25.6 litres of clean water per 32 kg bag - a 1:1.25 ratio by weight (water to powder). Always add the dry powder into the water, not the other way around, to avoid lumps. Mix mechanically for 4-5 minutes until smooth. Do not add extra water or dry powder once the mix has started setting.

3) Can I use this on external walls or wet areas like bathrooms?

No - gypsum dissolves under continuous water contact. Alagar Super Plast is for interior walls and ceilings only. It is not suitable for external facades, open balconies, bathrooms with direct water splashing, or any surface that is regularly wet. For those areas, use a cement-based plaster instead.

4) How long before I can apply putty and paint over it?

Allow at least 72 hours of natural drying under good room ventilation before applying putty. Do not water-cure - gypsum plaster gains strength by drying naturally, not by water curing like cement plaster. Make sure the plaster is completely dry and shows no damp patches before painting - trapped moisture under paint causes peeling and discolouration.

5) How should I store unused bags on site?

Store bags on raised wooden pallets inside a dry, weather-tight area - off bare ground and away from humidity. Exposure to moisture in the air causes the powder to absorb water, form hard lumps, and lose its setting properties. Properly stored bags have a shelf life of 12 months from the manufacturing date. Check the date on the bag before use.
